‘Twas the “unsilent”night before Christmas when all through the Kings Theater, not a diva was off key, not even Mariah. So many amazing singers gathered on Friday night for a concert that will be touched many hearts. The “VH1 Divas: Unsilent Night” red carpet captured stars like supermodel Ashley Graham and Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’s Ariane Davis. Presenters also were pretty big VH1 stars. Performance flowed from Mariah Carey to Patti LaBelle and Chaka Khan. Teyana Taylor even did a sexy Santa Baby!
One minute we’re looking around, waiting for the talented divas and the next we hear “please welcome…. Mariah Carey!” Everyone screamed as the red velvet curtains opened to reveal a very jingle Mariah in a sleigh surrounded by gorgeous men. The audience was shook. Not a single hair was out of place; even the backup dancers did everything perfectly. I was really feeling Christmas in the air and so was everyone in that theater. I don’t want to call her out on it, but I must. MC was lip syncing. I mean it sounded like the original version and she couldn’t hit those notes at her last Christmas special, so there’s no way she could hit them now. Apart from that, she looked stunning.
After all, she is the Queen of Christmas.
Next was Patti LaBelle who shook the audience to its core. Although we expected Lady Marmalade, she absolutely killed the Christmas songs she performed.
Three talented women got together for the musical night. Jojo, Bebe Rexha, and Empire’s Serayah sang together in the cutest gold dresses. They were welcomed with loud cheers. Not to mention Vanessa Williams was absolutely flawless. She looked elegant and the crowd ate it up!
The most intense claps of encouragement went to Chaka Khan though. The crowd roared at her Ain’t Nobody. Not a single soul in that theater could avoid clapping along to that iconic song. However, what really gave me chills was when Patti came back out and they sang Carole King’s Natural Woman. I think everyone will remember that moment for the rest of their lives. We were all just so happy. I felt like president Obama watching Aretha Franklin sing. It was the most incredible experience and trying to put it into words is so difficult; no one felt my heart pounding and the hairs on my arms raise as I heard Chaka Khan hit those notes perfectly.
I just have a new appreciation for music. It was all truly magical and memorable! Definitely one of the best nights of my life.
